While Netflix making "Longmire" season 5 official comes as good news to fans, it may also be in a way bad news in disguise. A new report claims that season 5 will also be the crime drama's last season.

Various media outlets are starting to report that the show will come to an end after season 5. If the reports are accurate, the drama is expected to end on a high note, given that the episodes in the upcoming season will be longer.

Fans have been clamoring for more episodes in "Longmire" season 5 and while Netflix will still be going with 10 episodes for this season, as it did in the previous one, season 5 got an additional 20 minutes of airtime.

Lou Diamond Phillips, who plays the role of Don Lucho in the series, teased in an interview with Variety that this extension will not go to waste and will be used for the betterment of the show.

"We can let those moments breathe and round out those characters and it's a much more cinematic experience episode to episode," the actor promised. With this, "Longmire" season 5 should be juicier in terms of storytelling and character development.

It is easy to imagine that the show will vastly improve with 20 more minutes at the cast and crew's disposal. Whether or not this will help it scoop higher ratings and lengthen its life on Netflix remain to be seen, but the fans are, as always, hopeful.

Work for "Longmire" season 5 already started last year. There's no premiere date for the new season but the general consensus is that it will be out by September this year, considering the fourth season dropped the same month last year.

In the upcoming season of the beloved crime drama, Sheriff Walt Longmire will be facing grave danger that came knocking on his door during the season 4 finale.
