After the record-breaking clamor of "Longmire" fans to keep the show afloat, Netflix announced that they are bringing back the crime drama for another season.
A&E cancelled "Longmire" before it aired its last episode on Aug. 4, leading to one of the biggest online outpouring of support for a discontinued series. The demand for a fourth season inspired the producers at Warner Horizon to look for a new network that can pick up the series, which eventually landed in the hands of Netflix.
Cindy Holland, Netflix vice president for original content, shared their decision to pick up the series, saying, "When Warner Horizon Television came to us with the idea for a new season of Longmire, we were intrigued because the series is so unique, and consistently great."
"We are thrilled to help continue Walt Longmire's story for his large and passionate following," she added.
"Longmire" is adapted from the mystery novels written by best-selling author Craig Johnson. The show follows the life of Walt Longmire, played by actor Robert Taylor, the dedicated and charming sheriff of Absaroka County in Wyoming. The sheriff returned to his job after the death of his wife, and is assisted by his daughter Cady and friends as he investigates the major crimes in his county.
Taylor is joined by Cassidy Freeman as Cady, Katee Sackhoff as Vic Morettu, Lou Diamond Phillips as Henry Standing Bear, Adam Bartley as The Ferg, and Bailey Chase as Branch Connally in the roster of the show's main cast.
According to Deadline, "Longmire" season 4 will pick up after the events that happened at the end of season 3, wherein Longmire found out who killed his wife and instinctively took off to look for the killer to avenge his wife's death.
Before the show was cancelled, "Longmire" was the most-viewed original series of A&E, with an average of 5.6 million viewers during its last season.
Aside from "Longmire," Netflix will also pick up another axed cable drama called "The Killing."
The premiere date of "Longmire" season 4 has not yet been announced.
