LG V30S ThinQ release date, news, specs features: New smartphone boasts new AI camera software, but keeps the same Snapdragon 835 chip, 3,300 mAh battery

Weeks before the start of the Mobile World Congres (MWC) 2018, LG already tipped that it would unveil an upgraded version of the V30 smartphone during the tech expo. Earlier reports show that the new LG V30 would sport the same design and features of the original device, except for its all-new artificial intelligence (AI) camera functions. This week, the South Korean tech giant officially unveiled the LG V30S ThinQ, thus confirming all the prior speculations about the handset.

For starters, the announcement of the LG V30S ThinQ at the MWC 2018 confirmed that the new device is almost identical to the original V30 released a year ago. If there are some noticeable changes, those would be the enhanced display, bigger random-access memory (RAM) capacity, and new AI camera software. Specifically, the V30S ThinQ sports a tall display with 18:9 aspect ratio, and under the hood, the handset is packed with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and 3,300 mAh battery.

The LG V30S ThinQ will have 6 GB of RAM instead of 4 GB, and the handset will have additional storage options of 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB. Interestingly, the upgraded V30 handset has almost the same dual camera features as the original V30, and it was revealed that the AI improvement lies on the V30S ThinQ's new camera software.

As reported by The Verge, LG explained at the MWC presentation that the V30S ThinQ's AI-powered camera is made possible by its special camera software. This AI integration into LG's latest smartphones is considered as one of the company's biggest achievements yet. However, it was revealed that the AI camera will not be exclusive to the LG V30S ThinQ for long, as the company announced that the AI camera software will be included in the older V30 phones via a future update.

The LG V30S ThinQ will be shipped in new color variants called the New Platinum Grey and New Moroccan Blue. It appears that these new color scheme for the new V30 device will help the users to differentiate it from the 2017 smartphone.

Some tech enthusiasts could not help but question LG's decision to not launch a brand-new flagship at the MWC 2018. To note, the company was able to introduce a modular LG G5 handset in 2016, while last year's MWC gathering featured the LG G6, which is one of the first smartphones to sport an almost bezel-less display.
