'Legend of Zelda' Wii U release date update:, details revealed

The Legend of Zelda Wii-U Nintendo

Is there going to be another delay in the release of "The Legend of Zelda" for Wii U?

Nintendo Wii U gamers have been waiting for the game since producer Eiji Aonuma revealed their plans to release the 19th major installment in the best-selling game franchise in early 2015. Fans even caught their first glimpse of the game's impressive gameplay and astounding visuals during the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2014.

However, Aonuma already announced last March that Nintendo is "no longer making a 2015 release [its] number one priority" for the title. It means that a longer waiting period has to be endured before the single-player action-adventure game comes out, presumably in 2016.

But based on the Japanese gaming giant's financial report posted on their website, a 2016 release for "The Legend of Zelda" for Wii U may not happen after all. Based on the launch schedule of the primary products manufactured by Nintendo, the title has no definitive release date. It is the only game in the list aside from the upcoming "Project Giant Robot" that has a TBD launch date.

The lack of estimated time frame for "The Legend of Zelda's" release date indicates the possibility of the game coming out as late as 2017.

But in a previous interview with Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aime after the E3 2015 event back in June, he was still confident that "The Legend of Zelda" will be a 2016 game.

When asked by IGN if he believes that the lack of information about "The Legend of Zelda" at the E3 2015 event alarmed fans, he simply said: "No. I don't believe that it sends that messages. In fact, in separate interviews [Shigeru] Miyamoto has reinforced that it's a 2016 game, and I also believe he's reinforced that it's a Wii U game because I know that there is that thinking floating around."

Fils-Aime's words could somehow reassure "Zelda" fans that the game will come out next year, until an announcement from company sheds light regarding its release.
