Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and the team will deal with another high profile case when NBC releases the premiere episode of "Law & Order: SVU" season 18.

The network released the synopsis for season 18's premiere episode, which is titled "Terrorized." It reads:

"A young boy is found wandering alone in Central Park and the search for his parents leads to startling evidence of a planned mass casualty event in the city. As the SVU works with the joint-terrorism task force to find the suspects and the motive, Lt. Benson must also convince Barba to address allegations of rape and torture the boy's mother discloses."

Spoilers Daily also revealed that the episode will see the return of Chief William Dodds (Peter Gallagher), who was grieving the death of his son Mike (Andy Karl) at the end of season 17.

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the long-running police procedural series will release an episode that is based on "Making a Murderer."

According to the report, "E.T." star Henry Thomas will have a guest appearance with "The Practice" alum Kelli Williams in the said episode.

Thomas will portray the role of a convicted rapist who was recently released after 16 years due to the result of the DNA test taken from a piece of evidence from the crime scene. However, his freedom will be short-lived since his former arresting officer Fin (Ice T) must do another investigation after he got involved in a new deadly crime.

Meanwhile, Williams will portray the role of the suspect's rape victim, Melanie.

The case is inspired by the real-life legal battle against Steven Avery, the subject in Netflix's "Making a Murderer" documentary.

In related news, the new season of "Law & Order: SVU" will also feature a guest appearance by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, who will appear as himself to commend Lt. Benson for her exceptional work for ending the rape kit backlog.

"Law & Order: SVU" season 18 premiere airs on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
