'Law and Order: SVU' season 18 spoilers: U.S. VP Joe Biden commends Benson and team in guest spot

Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and the squad will have a special individual to attend to in "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" season 18.

United States Vice President Joe Biden will be a guest star in one episode of "Law and Order: SVU" season 18 to put the spotlight on the issue of the backlog of untested rape kits and violence against women.

In the "Law and Order: SVU" season 18, he will commend the SVU's efforts in unclogging the snarl-up, which he himself has been working on.

Biden and Hargitay are of the same opinion with regards to these untested rape kits and have collaborated to tackle the issue. They visited the facility in New York where these kits were housed.

Hargitay has attended the United State of Women Summit at the White House back in June to speak up about the issue. It was also the voice of the "Law and Order: SVU" lead star that accompanied Biden's biographical video regarding the same case shown at the Democratic National Convention.

On several occasions, Hargitay has also sent praises to the VP for the work he's doing about the issue. "VP Biden you have done so much for women, for survivors, for this movement to end violence. Thank you," Hargitay tweeted after the DNC.

Biden's presence on the set of "Law and Order: SVU" season 18 had the cast and crew star-struck. Executive producer Julie Martin tweeted about the experience to see him in person and work with him.

"So thrilled to meet Joe Biden. He made us all feel so validated about the good we do on Law and Order: SVU," Martin tweeted, along with a photo of Biden and Hargitay together on screen during the "Law and Order: SVU" season 18 shoot.

Ice T, who plays Fin, also shared a photo of Biden doing his scene.

"Law and Order: SVU" season 18 premieres Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
