'Law and Order: SVU' season 17 spoilers: Brad Garrett appearing as guest; Carisi developments and everything to expect in the episodes down to the finale

In the much-awaited finale of "Law and Order: SVU" season 17, which is currently on an agonizing month-long hiatus, the unit will be dealing with a monster of a man named Gary Munson, who has an atrocious hobby of beating up women.

Munson projects himself to everyone as a model hard-worker and a family man. He makes sure his life is picture-perfect to overshadow his sinister pastime, which involves assaulting women, particularly female inmates at Rikers, where he works as a corrections officer.

His skeleton in the closet will soon be exposed in "Law and Order: SVU" season 17 finale and Benson, whose level of tolerance for criminals like him is below nil, will make sure that he pays for his crimes.

Of course, it will be a challenge for the unit to put him behind bars with the false portrait he painted for himself and the fact that his victims are jailbirds, whose words and claims the court will have difficulty to take.

For this exciting "Law and Order: SVU" season 17 ender, the three-time Emmy winner Brad Garrett will play the role of Munson. The finale will be divided into two episodes – the first part will air on May 18 and the other on May 25.

Carisi in the previous "Law and Order: SVU" season 17 episode Michael Parmelee/NBC

As for the episodes leading up to the "Law and Order" season 17 finale, fans of Carisi will be treated to lots of material involving the character. This will definitely be a treat, after the detective came close to his demise in an undercover mission in episode 19.

First, the results of the board exam that he took will be revealed in "Law and Order: SVU" season 17. "It takes months to get your results," executive producer Warren Leight told Entertainment Weekly. "We can look to that sometime in May to find out about that," he added.

As for his burgeoning relationship with Rollins, Carisi's essayer Peter Scanavino told The Hollywood Reporter that "It's still definitely on the friendship level, but who knows? It could stay there."

"It could develop into something itself. That's what's really interesting about the relationship with Rollins," he continued, adding that there are "a lot of possibilities."

"Law and Order: SVU" season 17 returns May 4 on NBC.
