'DriveClub' PS Plus release date imminent after server upgrade

Evolution Studios upgraded the "DriveClub" server Monday, which could pave the way for the release of the highly anticipated PS Plus edition. The server upgrade, which came alongside Game Update 1.16, aims to replace the old server to enhance server performance and provide improved challenges while the game is being prepared for the PlayStation Plus, which has been postponed for a while.

A lot of subscribers have been looking forward to the promised PlayStation Plus version of the racing video game, especially those who subscribe to the paid service offered by the PlayStation Network. It is meant to provide PS Plus subscribers with all the online features and game modes that are typically offered to those who buy the game, but the free version will only offer selected cars and race locations.

The PS Plus version was initially planned to be unveiled during "DriveClub's" release in October 2014, but server problems and loading errors delayed the release of this version indefinitely. According to the server upgrade announcement, "significant technical improvements will be made to enhance server connectivity and prepare for the PlayStation Plus Edition." However, the game developer is still mum about the release date of "DriveClub's" PS Plus edition.

According to the server upgrade announcement posted on the official DriveClub Facebook page, the Challenges and Event History will be reset once the new servers and game update go live. However, players can still continue playing the game and come up with Challenges before the update rolls out.

Meanwhile, Game Update 1.16 comes with the following:

  • Expanded Challenges that can support an unlimited number of participants in the game
  • Integrated Challenge notifications in the Social Hub activity feed to provide better access
  • Adding the Evolution Studios Challenges to the Challenge Menu
  • Optimizing the Invitation options so that the active players will become the focus for those who are looking for challengers, and to lessen the challenge notification spam

Game Update 1.16 also brings more #PS4share pictures made by the community in the Menus section of the game.
