Fans of "The Last of Us" where thrilled when rumors revealed that the game's sequel is already in the works. But Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann recently set the records straight regarding the follow-up to the popular horror action-adventure survival game.

Druckmann clarified the sequel rumors, which were instigated by a Gamespot report saying that voice actor Nolan North mentioned at the Indy PopCon in June that "The Last of Us 2" is already in the works. Then the rumors got started again when "Uncharted" series writer Josh Scherr praised Eric Baldwin's work on the facial animation of "all of the Uncharted games and the first The Last of Us" during the "Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection" livestream sessions.

But Druckmann recently gave his statement to correct the misinformation about the alleged "The Last of Us" sequel in the latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine, spotted by GamesRadar. Druckmann said that he was actually surprised when North talked about the development of "The Last of Us 2." He also mentioned that the voice actor seemed to know more about the game than they do.

"The answer is — and this is totally honest, and I've said this in the past — that when Bruce (Straley) and I moved over to Uncharted 4, we were brainstorming ideas for The Last Of Us 2 with new characters; ideas for TLOU 2 with Joel and Ellie; ideas for a sci-fi game; ideas for a fantasy game, and building prototypes for each one of those ideas," Druckmann stated. "And just as we were getting close to settling or narrowing that list down, we were asked to work on Uncharted 4."

He also said the Naughty Dog actually managed to work on several "The Last of Us 2" prototypes, but the whole studio concentrated on "Uncharted 4" after that.

This simply means that those who are waiting for the next chapter of "The Last of Us" will have to wait a little longer for the sequel.
