After the critically disappointing "Justice League" premiere, fans have been demanding Warner Bros. to release director Zack Snyder's original cut. Now, "Deadpool" creator Robert Liefeld has their support, saying he wants to see it, too.
Liefeld declared on Twitter Sunday that he is on board the idea of having Snyder's original version released despite being late in calling for it.
"100% guilty of being late to this party, but i definitely want to see this version," he wrote, attaching an article that breaks down the deleted scene from the final cut of "Justice League," which surfaced on Reddit.
As previously reported, the team-up film raked less positive reviews when it debuted on the big screen earlier this month. While the lackluster villain and choppy story were at the forefront of the issue, some fans also attributed its flop to its conflicting tones and short runtime.
Comic Book recalls Snyder had to exit the project during the post-production in May after a family tragedy. Joss Whedon was then hired to finish the remaining work, but was later announced to do some reshoots that were supposedly minimal and adhere to Snyder's style. While DC producer Charles Roven said Whedon only reshot 15 to 20 percent of the film, there were claims that his contributions may have been much higher as reviews indicated the final cut had an obvious tonal clash between his lighthearted and Snyder's grim and dark take on superheroes.
Those who kept up with the trailers also noticed that a few scenes did not make it to the final cut of the movie. The shortest film in the DC Extended Universe to date, "Justice League," was reportedly mandated to be trimmed under two hours; hence, its 121-minute runtime. This had Snyder faithfuls believing there is a full, workable part of the director's "Justice League" cut out there.
A VFX artist who works on DC's superhero movies did claim anonymously on Reddit that much of "Justice League" ended up on the cutting room floor. However, that does not necessarily mean that Snyder's version exists. Going by the name LDN_Film, he explained: "There is no 'Snyder cut. Directors constantly change the edit as they're going along, hence why some shots get half finished then scrapped - like some of the leaked ones."
Snyder has reportedly had a rough edit in process when he left the project. However, the reshoots were done six months later. As the film is found in the editing process, LDN reiterated that Snyder had no final version of the film.
"Yes, Zack would've probably done things differently to how the film turned out, but thats it," LDN added. "There isn't a secret Zack version hidden somewhere. It doesn't exist."
At this point, the online petition to release Snyder's cut has already earned over 140,000 signatures. Warner Bros. has yet to respond to the demand.
