A lot of people will argue that an important part of making it big in the movie industry is "having foresight," and that seems to be a mantra Universal Pictures has been embodying all these years. One evidence of such instance is its announcement of a "Jurassic World 3" release -- way before the second and current installment of the dino series "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" hits theaters.
Universal has announced that the third installment "Jurassic World 3" will be coming out on June 11, 2021, ahead of promotional campaigns for "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom."
The third film will see the return of Steven Spielberg as an executive producer same with Colin Trevorrow. Although Trevorrow is returning, he will not be sitting in the director's chair -- he will be on writing duty alongside newcomer Emily Carmichael, co-writer of the upcoming "Pacific Rim: Uprising."
Although the current installments saw Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt in starring roles, casting details or a possible storyline for the 2021 movie are still being kept under wraps. The same could be said about who will be directing the film -- it has not been revealed.
The third installment is not much of a surprise since early on the franchise's first movie director, Trevorrow, has expressed his desire of making the franchise a trilogy.
"Jurassic World," released in 2015, is the first movie in the expected trilogy. It grossed a whopping $1.67 billion at the worldwide box office. Its sequel "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" is due for theatrical release on June 22. It sees Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return to reprise their roles. Jeff Goldblum is also set to be featured in the film as his original "Jurassic Park" character, Dr. Ian Malcolm.
In previous trailers, the sequel will follow the events of the last film with the park being ultimately dilapidated. In line with the previews, the volcano in the island will play an integral role in this next installment.
