Fresh from the billion-dollar success of "Jurassic World" in June, a sequel to the box-office hit movie will soon be produced.

The fourth installment in the "Jurassic Park" movie franchise reportedly earned $1.637 billion at the box-office worldwide as of Aug 31. It is hailed as the third highest-grossing movie of all time in both the U.S. and international box-office, and currently holds the title of being the highest-grossing movie of the year.

All these records prompted the film studio to come up with plans for the next installment of the film, which will bring back Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, respectively.

While details about the upcoming film remain scarce at the moment, "Jurassic World" director Colin Trevorrow briefly talked about the plans for "Jurassic World 2." In an earlier interview with Wired UK, the filmmaker revealed that he may not be working as the director for the next film, but he will still be on board as an executive producer alongside acclaimed director Steven Spielberg, who also helmed the first film in the franchise.

"Whether or not I am involved in later installments or not, I felt it was important for me to set the table," Trevorrow shared. "I know they're going to want to make them, I know that Stephen definitely wants to make several of these movies, and I want to do my job in setting the table for something that can be rich and thoughtful and interesting."

Trevorrow also hinted that the next installment for the franchise may no longer contain the dinosaurs in a theme park. He also said that he is thrilled with the idea where dinosaurs will no longer be confined on one island.

"I feel like the idea that this isn't always going to be limited to theme parks, and there are applications for this science that reach far beyond entertainment," the filmmaker shared.

"Jurassic World 2" is slated for release on June 7, 2018 in the UK and June 22, 2018 in the US.
