In the never-ending courtroom drama for Jodi Arias' sentencing retrial, one of the ex-girlfriends of murder victim Travis Alexander was asked to testify in court to prove that the deceased never abused her.
Earlier, Arias' defense team told the jurors that the victim hurt his ex-girlfriend Deanna Reid when they were together. However, Reid denied such claims, saying that any assault never took place. Reid's testimony portrays the victim as a very loving person, instead of what the defense was trying to paint in front of the court.
"Deanna Reid is actually getting out that he was a very loving person, he was a good person, he would never do that to her, he would never touch her or harm her, and that's exactly what the state wants this jury to hear," legal analyst Jen Wood told AZ Family.
However, the defense tried to invalidate the credibility of Reid's testimonies when they had the chance to grill the witness on the stand. Arias' lawyer Jennifer Willmott pointed out that Reid was not completely honest in court when she said that she had no idea whether Alexander was having sex with other women even if she admitted during the first trial that she and the victim had sexual relationships when they were together.
Wood shared her thoughts about the event that transpired in the courtroom, saying, "There is quite a bit of sparring going on between Jennifer and Deanna because what Jennifer Willmott is trying to do is show that Deanna Reid wasn't exactly honest that she's had sex with Travis Alexander. But in the reality of it Jennifer Willmott and the defense didn't come out and ask Deanna Reid if she had sex with Travis Alexander, so it's a matter of wording that they are fighting over."
Jodi Arias was convicted of first-degree murder on May 8, 2013 for killing Alexander in his home on June 4, 2008. However, the first jury failed to come up with a collective decision for her penalty. The second trial was called on Oct. 21, 2014 to decide the just penalty for the crime.
