'Jane the Virgin' season 3 cast news, spoilers: Ricardo Chavira tapped to play old flame of Xo

Andrea Navedo as Xiomara Villanueva in 'Jane the Virgin' The CW

Jane's (Gina Rodriguez) mother, Xiomara (Andrea Navedo), will find herself in another complicated situation in "Jane the Virgin" season 3.

According to a report from Deadline, "Desperate Housewives" alum Ricardo Chavira had been tapped to play the role of Xo's former boyfriend. But their past relationship already had its complication since the two had an affair while he was still married.

Chavira's arrival is just the least of Xo's problems in "Jane the Virgin" season 3. At the end of season 2, Xo found out that she was pregnant. This will bring a huge problem to the Villanueva household since she was very vocal to Jane's father, Rogelio dela Rosa (Jaime Camil), that she does not want another child. However, her pregnancy was a result of her brief affair with Rogelio's biggest rival, Esteban Santiago (Keller Wortham).

Will the arrival of her ex cause more problems for Xo next season?

Chavira's entry in the third season of "Jane the Virgin" will serve as a reunion with his "Desperate Housewives" co-star, Eva Longoria, who will serve as a director for one of the episodes in "Jane the Virgin" season 3.

Meanwhile, Rogelio will have a problem of his own in the third season of "Jane the Virgin." In an interview with Pop Sugar in June, Camil revealed that his character will be deeply worried about the health condition of his new son-in-law, Michael Cordero (Brett Dier), who was shot after his wedding with Jane at the end of season 2.

According to the actor, showrunner Jennie Urman kept them in the dark regarding the plans for season 3.

"It's like, 'Jennie, what's going to happen with Michael?' Because, you know, Rogelio was devastated when Michael got shot. I'm like, 'I cannot go on with life, so what's going to happen, Jennie?'" Camil stated.

But the showrunner only told them to wait a little longer to find out the plans for the upcoming season so that they could keep the show's mystery.

The CW will release the premiere episode of "Jane the Virgin" season 3 on Monday, Oct. 17.
