'Hart of Dixie' season 5 cancelled or renewed? Show to return?

In just three weeks, "Hart of Dixie" season 4 will broadcast its final episode, but any news about having a fifth season is still unannounced.

Earlier this year, The CW made an announcement about the renewal of some of its shows. It includes the fourth season of "Arrow," the 11th season of "Supernatural," the second season of "The Flash" and "Jane the Virgin," the seventh season of "The Vampire Diaries," as well as the third season of "Reign" and "The Hundred." But "Hart of Dixie" and "Beauty and the Beast" were not included in the list.

In February, the network finally announced that "Beauty and the Beast" will return for its third and fourth seasons. This means the only show from The CW that is left in limbo is "Hart of Dixie." Speculations are rife that the comedy-drama series is indeed running its final season because of its constantly declining numbers in the ratings game.

In her interview with The Wrap last December, series showrunner Leila Gerstein said that she is open to the idea that the show may not return for another season.

"We have left doors open if there is a Season 5," the executive producer stated. "And if there isn't a Season 5, I feel that this season is a celebration. I know that people will be very sad, but story-wise there will be enough conclusion that people won't feel like they're left hanging."

It means that Gerstein has already accepted the possibility that they show will no longer have a future in The CW. Still, in January this year, The CW network president Mark Pedowitz said that they still have not decided about the future of the show.

According to the network executive, "I'm happy to see how it plays. If [the comedy series] ends, it is a great finale. If it doesn't, it's a great season finale."

The final episode of "Hart of Dixie" titled "Bluebell" is scheduled to air on March 27.
