Robert Downey Jr. wants to keep fans guessing whether the "Iron Man 4" movie will be coming out or not.

In his past interviews, the award-winning actor had been teasing fans about reprising his role as Tony Stark for another installment in the "Iron Man" franchise. But in a recent article posted at Variety.com, RDJ said that he will not wear the iron-clad suit once again for a stand-alone film.

"There isn't one in the pipe. No, there's no plan for a fourth Iron Man," Downey pointed out.

However, fans will still see him portray the role of the multi-billionaire who dons the red and gold iron armor in the sequel of Marvel's Avengers film entitled "Avengers: Age of Ultron," as well as for the third installment of the franchise.

The "Iron Man" trilogy is recognized as one of the highest grossing superhero films in Hollywood. It reportedly earned more than $2 billion at the international box office. That is why it is not impossible to find a clamor for a fourth installment of the film.

According to iDigitalTimes, one of the reasons for the success of the "Iron Man" franchise is Downey's participation in the movie.

"I think I was at the forefront of something that was coming into being, and I think it has carried me as much as I have informed it. That's the healthy way to look at it. It's so easy to become inflated by the successes, but what they really are are long, strong trends. It's just another wave," the actor once told the Hollywood Reporter.

Despite the silence about plans for creating a fourth "Iron Man" film, RDJ always mentions during his interviews that he could consider coming back to the franchise if Marvel would ask him to.

"It's down to Kevin (Feige, Marvel Studios President) and Ike (Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel Entertainment) and Disney with what proposal is, and that's on us to agree or disagree," the 49-year-old actor stated.

If a fourth "Iron Man" film will be produced, fans are speculating that the film will come out sometime in 2019.
