iPhone X SE release date, specs news: Budget phone to still keep core features, including Face ID

The rumors are rife that Apple is currently working on the next-generation of iPhone SE. The Cupertino-based tech firm introduced the budget-friendly, standard edition handset in 2016, and it is expected that its successor, now dubbed as the iPhone X SE will arrive sometime this year with a brand new design. The highlight of the device will be its striking similarity with Apple's present flagship, the iPhone X, mainly due to its rumored Face ID components.

The latest scoop on the iPhone X SE came from a known tech leaker, Macotakara, the same source who correctly predicted that the iPhone 7 would be losing the 3.5mm headphone jack. The website has shown a concept video of the iPhone X SE, which does not only offer a preview of the front and back portions of the handset, but also reveals its capabilities while in use.

The iPhone X SE leak suggests that the upcoming budget phone will be much like the iPhone X, although instead of using a glass material for the body, the iPhone X SE will get an angular aluminum chassis instead. Interestingly, KGI Securities analayst Ming-Chi Kuo stated in his earlier notes that the second-gen iPhone SE will stick with an aluminum cover, but this could be the only similarity it will have with the original SE handset.

Unlike the first version, the iPhone X SE is presented with the Face ID components on the front side, and the absence of the home button is also noticeable. With this, it can be said that the iPhone X SE will also say goodbye to Touch ID, much like other iPhone models that will be released by Apple this year.

Many people seem to give weight on Macotakara's latest report on the iPhone X SE, although it should be noted that the leaks website has also covered a few tech predictions that never materialized.

As for its take on the iPhone SE successor, the flagship-like features appear to be quite suspicious because these will significantly increase the cost of the device, according to Forbes. From the original $350 price tag, the iPhone X SE price could go as high as $750, especially if the high-end features such as Face ID and wireless charging are to be added.
