iPad Air 2 vs iPhone 6 Plus specs comparison: Does the phablet make iPads unnecessary?

It seems like the newly released iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are slowly taking over the iPad market, as more users reportedly prefer to use their bigger smartphones rather than use tablet devices.

GSMArena reported that more Apple users are spending less time using their iPads compared to their recently purchased iPhones. This study was recorded by the development team behind the app called Pocket, which lets user to save videos, articles, as well as other web content to be viewed at a later time.

According to the data recorded by the app developer, iPhone 6 owners are spending at least 72 percent of their time checking out the contents of their Pocket app in their handset, compared to just 22 percent of those who use it in their iPad tablets. Also, the numbers increased in the much bigger iPhone 6 Plus devices, which recorded at least 80 percent compared to the 20 percent average on their iPads.

So which of the two devices should shoppers purchase?  Here is a comparison between the two Cupertino-manufactured products, the iPad Air 2 and the iPhone 6 Plus:

iPhone 6 Plus

The iPhone 6 Plus, which was released in September 2014, comes with a 5.5-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD, capacitive touchscreen that features 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution with 401 ppi pixel density. It is equipped with the Apple A8 chipset with dual-core 1.4 GHz Cyclone (ARM v8-based) CPU and PowerVR GX6450 (quad-core graphics) GPU. It also has an 8-megapixel primary camera with dual-LED flash, optical image stabilization and phase detection, as well as a 1.2-megapixel secondary camera that can be used for FaceTime over mobile data or Wi-Fi.

iPad Air 2

The bigger iPad Air 2 device is obviously packed with more powerful specs, including a 9.7-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that features 1536 x 2048 pixel resolution with 264 ppi pixel density. It also has an Apple A8X chipset with triple-core 1.5 GHz. Just like the iPhone 6 Plus, the iPad Air 2 also has an 8-megapixel primary shooter and a 1.2-megapixel secondary shooter.

Both devices run using the iOS 8 operating system, but can be updated to the iOS 8.1.1.
