iPad Pro 3 2018 release date, specs & features news: Tablet to launch at WWDC 2018 with Face ID system

The rumors are rife that Apple is about to release the third generation of its iPad Pro line this year. While details remain scarce regarding the possible specs and features of the next-gen tablet, it is widely speculated that the iPad Pro 3 will follow the footsteps of the iPhone series by going with an all-screen display. Also, the 2018 iPad Pro model is tipped to include the Face ID, which will permanently replace the Touch ID feature.

Per MacRumors, the iPad Pro 3 2018 is believed to sport a full screen view at the front, which is made possible by further reducing the bezels around the screen to almost razor-thin. This would be the biggest design change ever received by an iPad model. As the third-generation iPad Pro is expected to use the iPhone X design, it is likely that the tablet will get a notch area on the top portion of the display as well.

As the iPad Pro 3 2018 goes for a more immersive full screen view, the home button situated at the bottom bezel will be removed, similar to what happened with the 2017 iPhone flagship. This means that users can no longer expect the iPad Pro to have the Touch ID feature, as the fingerprint reader is embedded under the home button. There could be something better in exchange of the Touch ID, as the new iPad Pro would get the iPhone X's Face ID system.

Earlier reports have already pointed out a possible major overhaul in the iPad Pro design this year. KGI Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that the iPad Pro 3 will arrive in 2018 with a very similar appearance to the iPhone X. The all-screen notch display could be Apple's definition of a modern design, and the first beta version of the iOS 11.3 update had a line of code that hints on a "modern iPad." Interestingly, Apple used the "modern" phrase to introduce the iPhone X prior to its official unveiling last September.

Regarding the release date of the iPad Pro 3 2018, the tablet is expected to be included in the lineup of new hardware to be launched by Apple at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event this June. It was previously thought that the pro-level iPad would appear at the recent education-focused event of Apple at Chicago, but the company only announced an updated iPad with Apple Pencil support.
