iPad Mini 5 release date update: Device to be announced next year?

Will Apple's iPad Mini 5 look like the iPad Mini 4? Apple

While there are limited updates about Apple's iPad Mini 5, reports claim that the Cupertino-based tech giant is planning to release the new iPad line-ups in 2017.

According to MacRumors, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that there will be more than one iPad that will be released in the market next year. However, he did not mention if one of them is the 7.9-inch screen iPad Mini 5.

"We expect three new iPads (12.9" iPad Pro 2, new size 10.5" iPad Pro & low-cost 9.7" iPad) to be launched in 2017, though this may not drive shipment growth amid structural headwinds; 2017F shipments to fall 10-20% YoY," the tech analyst said.

But gadget watchers who were looking forward to the smaller version of the iPad tablets did not see the iPad Mini 5 at the tech firm's Keynote event Wednesday, Sept. 7, where other Apple products like the highly anticipated iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were expected to make their debut.

While there are no big expectations regarding the modifications on the rumored iPad Mini 5's design, speculations claimed that the new device will feature the A9 chipset. There are also reports claiming that the upcoming tablet will support the 3D touch feature that is already available in the latest iPhone 6s.

Other speculated features of the new iPad Mini 5 include the usual 8-megapixel primary rear camera with a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera. It might also have a waterproof feature. The device could also come out with a bigger 256 GB memory variant aside from its usual memory options, as well as iOS 10 when it comes out in the market.
