iOS 12 release date, features news: Concept video reveals Cover Flow in Music app; Next software update set for WWDC 2018

The iOS 11 preview in different Apple devices Apple

Apple has just released the latest major update for the iOS 11.3, which introduced some important new fixes and features to improve the users' experience. However, the public still expects something big coming up for the upcoming new iOS 12 version this year.

There are no confirmed reports yet regarding the possible contents of the iOS 12, although a recent concept video gives an idea on what the 2018 iOS version could bring. For one, the iOS 12 is visualized to feature a refreshed Music app, thanks to the all-new Cover Flow.

It appears that the most useful feature of the iOS 11 so far is the new battery management setting, which helps the users to prevent the battery performance throttling that was set in place by Apple itself.

Per Value Walk, the possible highlight of the iOS 12 could be an improved Music app, if the work of a visual artist were to be believed. A new concept video featuring the iOS 12 Music app has been spotted online, but it should be noted that this may not have anything to do with Apple's actual plans for the next iOS update, as everything in the video came from the artist's own imagination.

It would be a nice move by Apple to improve the Music app, considering that the app has not received any major revamps over the previous iOS updates. What is more interesting in the iOS 12 concept video is the return of Cover Flow, a feature that was removed from the Music app in the iOS 8.4 back in 2015.

Many users thought that the Cover Flow was an important part of the Music app, allowing to switch between tracks and albums easily. Although, necessary revisions to this feature should be applied if it were to make a comeback in the iOS 12.

The iOS 12 concept video also shows the Music app operating in dark mode, as well as the interface fitting perfectly to the iPhone X notch display. I might be too early to speculate about the actual features of the iOS 12, given that Apple has not yet even begun the public beta testing for the software version.

More information about the next iOS version is likely to be announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2018 on June 4, in the same stage where Apple also launched the previous iOS builds.
