"Indiana Jones 5" will be happening, after all. For a while now, there have been oodles of speculations about the fedora hat-loving swashbuckler returning to the silver screen after almost a decade. Now, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger has corroborated these reports.
Talking to Bloomberg about Disney's commitment to the art of storytelling, Iger enumerated the franchises that showcase this passion and, in the process, laid out the good news that fans of the big-screen archaeologist always wanted to hear.
"We had in Marvel, stories and characters, great storytelling, and obviously in George Lucas' Star Wars, and Indiana Jones, by the way, as well, which will be coming, we have more great stories," the CEO stated, as quoted by The Mary Sue.
With that said, fans can finally look forward to a whole new adventure with the buccaneer in "Indiana Jones 5." However, upon the announcement, there is now the question of whether or not Harrison Ford will be returning to wield the whip and don the fedora.
But fans may already know the answer to that. If the wishes of Steven Spielberg, who directed the films in the franchise, will be followed, "Indiana Jones 5" will see Ford reprise his iconic character. "There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones and that's Harrison Ford," the filmmaker told Screen Daily.
Responding to rumors that the actor will be replaced by a younger star with the names of "Jurassic World 2" star Chris Pratt and "Limitless" star Bradley Cooper being mentioned, this is what Spielberg had to say: "I don't think that's ever going to happen."
Ford, on the other hand, has also expressed his interest to give "Indiana Jones 5" a go, stating that if Spielberg is on board, he would love to join the ride. "If we get a script, I'd love to do it," Ford told Entertainment Weekly.
With "Indiana Jones 5" official, fans should hear more specific details about the film soon.
