In spite of being a no-show at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in Barcelona last week, the rumors are rife that HTC is set to launch a brand-new flagship smartphone in the coming months. Dubbed the HTC U12, the handset is believed to feature Qualcomm's latest high-end mobile processor, the Snapdragon 845. Likewise, the HTC U12 is likely to make the leap to a dual-lens rear camera setup.

The latest leak regarding the HTC U12 came from a tech tipster known as LlabTooFeR. On Twitter, he shared a list of specs of the upcoming flagship handset. Based on the details he provided, the HTC U12 could be a great contender for the best Android smartphone of 2018, that is if LlabTooFeR's source is reliable. Consistent with the earlier reports, the latest leak claims that the U12 smartphone will be powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset, the same processor used by the recently unveiled Samsung Galaxy S9 and Sony Xperia XZ2.

Speaking of the Snapdragon 845, the chipset's inclusion in the HTC U12 specs support the rumors that the smartphone will be 5G-capable. To recall, HTC made a 5G demonstration at a tech event in Taiwan last month, in which a suspected U12 smartphone was placed in display.

The HTC U12 is shown to have 6 GB of random-access memory (RAM) and up to 256 GB of internal storage, which are hedged higher compared with last year's U11 handset. The U12 is packed with slightly bigger 3,420 mAh battery, which is almost as big as that of the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, according to 9to5Google.

Another important detail from the HTC U12 leak is the dual camera setup. It appears that 2018 is the right time to incorporate dual-lens camera sensors to HTC's flagship smartphone, which is a combination of 12 MP and 16 MP sensors. Other specs of the HTC U12 include an 8 MP front-facing camera, dual-SIM slots and IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.

The HTC U12 is expected to be showcased at a standalone event sometime in April.
