The Underwoods are more terrifying than ever in the latest trailer for "House of Cards" season 5.
On Monday, Netflix dropped a new trailer for the anticipated "House of Cards" season 5, featuring the sinister president, Frank (Kevin Spacey), as he shares his vision for the next six terms.
"The American people don't know what's best for them. I do. I know exactly what they need," the president of the United States told his wife Claire (Robin Wright), who is also his running mate in the fictional 2016 U.S. elections. He further compares the citizens to clueless kids who are not aware of what will happen when the Underwoods take the lead.
"They're like little children, Claire. We have to hold their sticky fingers and wipe their filthy mouths. Teach them right from wrong. Tell them what to think, how to feel and what to want," Frank states. "They even need help riding their wildest dreams, crafting their worst fears. Lucky for them, they have me. They have you. Underwood 2016, 2020, 2024, 2028, 2032, 2036. One nation, Underwood."
While the dramatic trailer keeps things a bit vague, it hints that this coming season will revolve around Frank and Claire. The pair is hell-bent on manipulating the American people to protect their own interests and take the public's attention away from the damaging article from the Washington Herald.
Season 4 left off with the Underwoods breaking the fourth wall after a man who had been taken as hostage by terrorists was killed. The execution led the president to declare an all-out war against extremism. In the last moments of the finale, Frank was sitting beside his wife when he delivered his infamous line: "We don't submit to terror. We make the terror."
Earlier this year, the streaming giant unveiled the first teaser for "House of Cards," which showcased its premiere date. The sneak peek was revealed just as President Donald Trump was being inaugurated. Expected to mirror the current political climate in the United States, the new season picks up in the midst of the Underwoods' campaign. Frank is up against Republican Governor Will Conway (Joel Kinnaman) from New York, who is clearly not backing down.
The fifth season of "House of Cards" premieres Tuesday, May 30, on Netflix.
