'House of Cards' season 4 release date, plot news: The Underwoods to face each other in epic battle for the presidency?

Things are looking bloodier in the White House when "House of Cards" returns to Netflix for its fourth season on Friday.

At the end of season 3, U.S. President Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and his wife Claire (Robin Wright) were on the brink of ending their tumultuous marriage. But in the upcoming season, the former power couple's conflict will be at its prime as they struggle with their marital problems and enter the upcoming presidential elections at the same time.

In a trailer for the upcoming season, Claire tells Frank that she already saw what the future will bring to their relationship. But Frank angrily tells his estranged wife, "We had a future, until you started destroying it."

The couple will also see themselves fighting against each other in the upcoming presidential elections. Will Frank lose everything he worked hard for to his equally ambitious wife?

Meanwhile, the departure of series creator Beau Willimon from the show has paved the way for the promotion of two senior writers.

Actor Kevin Spacey, who also acts as the executive producer of the show, released a statement to announce that senior writers Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese will be the newest showrunners of the series.

"I welcome Frank and Melissa in their new roles on 'House of Cards' and look forward to collaborating with them and our creative team on season 5," Spacey said in the press release, as reported by Slash Film.

Gibson and Pugliese also talked about their new tasks on the show, saying: "We and the rest of the 'House of Cards' writers look forward to the next chapter of the reign of Underwood."

"House of Cards" season 4 will be released by Netflix on Friday, March 4.
