'House of Cards' season 4 news: Series writer calls Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright the show's 'assets'

Details about the plot of "House of Cards" season 4 have been very scarce since the third season finale was aired in February this year. Now, fans of the popular political drama are getting more eager to find out how President Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) will deal with his impending divorce with Claire (Robin Wright).

In season 3, Frank and Claire decided to give up on their marriage. Aside from the couple's family drama, fans of the series must look forward to more political conspiracies when Netflix releases the show's fourth season sometime next year.

Recently, the series production revealed that "Party of 5" alum Neve Campbell will join Spacey and Wright in the upcoming season in a still undisclosed role. Campbell will reportedly join the online streaming series as a regular character, and her appearance could have a direct effect on the estranged White House couple.

One of the speculations regarding Campbell's character claims that she will be a part of another powerful but younger political couple which could be a threat to President Underwood's office, while another rumor claims that she will support Frank or Claire in their bid for the presidential seat. However, series writer Beau Willimon refused to confirm or deny the validity of any of the reports regarding the plot of "House of Cards" season 4.

"I don't talk about upcoming seasons at all," Willimon explained to BBC while he was on location in Baltimore, Maryland to film the show's current season.

However, Willimon shared that both Spacey and Wright are involved in the writing process for their characters. According to the writer, both actors are the assets of the show, and they have a lot of inputs about their characters since they have been giving life to the roles of Frank and Claire for quite a while already.

"Sometimes the work happens on the day. We'll be rehearsing and I'll see or hear something that leads to a new idea, or they'll say 'Maybe we don't need these lines - maybe we can act these as opposed to saying them.' We're not precious about anything," Willimon explained.

The episodes of "House of Cards" season 4 are expected to be released by Netflix in 2016.
