Gearbox Software announced the release of the "Homeworld Remastered Collection" on Feb. 25.

The collection contains the original "Homeworld" and "Homeworld 2" real-time strategy games as well as their remastered versions that present a fresher take of the iconic space simulation game franchise. These games come side by side so that players can see how the classic games work after being given a modern revamp.

Gearbox, the team behind the remastered version of Relic Entertainment's three dimensional RTS game, presented a demonstration of the game's new features during the developer's panel at the PAX South event. The demo aimed to showcase the old and new versions of the game by presenting them together.

Based on the demo, the new ships still have the same appearance as their predecessor, yet players can see them in clearer detail compared to the original ones. The remastered version also has a more seamless game handle that changes the bulky interface featured in the game's earlier versions.

Gearbox Software, popular for creating the "Borderlands" franchise, obtained the right to remaster and re-release "Homeworld" after they successfully won the auction on April 2013. They initially announced that they would come up with the remakes for "Homeworld HD" and "Homeworld 2 HD" together with the release of the games' original versions in 2014, but the company was not able to meet the deadline.

Aside from the original and remastered formats, the "Homeworld Remastered Collection" also includes an exclusive access to a Steam beta so that players can try out the multiplayer component of the game. The multiplayer beta also supports the competitive modes of all the games in the collection offered in a single experience.

Currently, the "Homeworld Remastered Collection" is available for pre-order on Steam at a discounted price of $29.74, but it will be originally sold for $34.99 after the pre-order period.
