After Disney Films announced that the "High School Musical" film series will return for a fourth installment, fans are hoping to see Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens reunite onscreen.

Disney Channel president Gary Marsh announced the development of "High School Musical 4" in a statement shared by E! News, saying that the original movie will always be part of the Disney Channel.

"It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we're excited to announce 'the start of something new' as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the 'High School Musical' franchise," Marsh said.

But it seems like fans hoping to see Efron's character Troy Bolton and Hudgens' Gabriella Montez back together in East High for the fourth installment of musical series get be disappointed after the camps of both actors continue to be silent. Other original cast members like Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman are also mum about the possible return of the roles in the movie, while Ashley Tisdale already told New You magazine that she will not reprise her role as Sharpay Evans in "High School Musical 4."

"Looking back, it was such a perfect thing for its time and was so pure that I just don't know how you go from there," the 30-year-old actress said. "High School Musical didn't make us, we made High School Musical because of our friendship, how close we were and the magic there at the time," she added.

The new "High School Musical 4" will feature a brand-new cast, including Sharpay and Ryan Evans' (Grabeel) cousin named Campbell. He will be joined by other new characters named Natalie, Erin, Derek, and Tamara.

Disney Films has yet to announce the official release date of "High School Musical 4."
