The highly anticipated continuation of the popular "Heroes" sci-fi series created by Tim Kring will hit TV screens with a special 13-episode reboot called "Heroes Reborn" starting tonight, Sept. 24.

Several fan-favorite characters from the original series will return one year after the terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas to reveal how the incident affected the people who possess extraordinary abilities. The characters include Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman), Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy), Micah Sanders (Noah Gray-Cabey), The Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis), and Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg).

The new "Heroes Reborn" miniseries will focus on the events one year after the Odessa attack and five years after the events in the original series. Those who have unusual powers had to go into hiding to save their lives because a lot of people are blaming them for the destruction of the city.

A new set of humans with superpowers referred to as the Evos (evolved humans) will also be introduced in "Heroes Reborn." One of them is "Chuck" star Zachary Levi, who will portray the role of vigilante Luke Collins. He and his wife Joanne (Judith Shekoni) are hell-bent on killing all Evos after their son died during the Odessa.

Then there's a war soldier named Carlos, portrayed by Ryan Guzman. He will be seen as a town hero after successfully returning home from a previous military war, but he does not seem to enjoy his newfound fame. But after another tragic event, Carlos will realize that he is a different kind of hero.

Robbie Kay also joins "Heroes Reborn" as Tommy, the awkward teenager who goes from one place to another with his mother to hide the fact that he is also an Evo. But despite the challenges of hiding his extraordinary abilities, Tommy is just like any average teenage boy who wants to win Gatlin Green's Emily.

"Heroes Reborn" will commence with a two-hour series premiere titled "Brave New World" on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 8 p.m. on NBC.  Alternatively, watch it online via live stream on NBC.com
