It seems like love will prevail amid the numerous action-packed challenges that the characters of "Hawaii Five-0" will have to go through when the series returns today for season 6.
CBS' police procedural drama set entirely in the Aloha State will once again deal with several suspense-filled cases that will push McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin), Danny (Scott Caan), and the rest of the team to their limits. But it does not mean that they will have no time for love.
Series executive producer Peter Lenkov recently talked to Entertainment Weekly to discuss the theme for "Hawaii Five-0" season 6. Based on Lenkov's statements, the series seems to be paying homage to the island by focusing on the subject of love.
"Every year we try to hit a theme," Lenkov shared. "This year the theme is love — aloha — and we're going to get into everyone's love life a little bit."
This could mean that the season will delve into the new stage in Kono (Grace Park) and Adam's (Ian Anthony Dale) life after they got married last season, as well as the complicated relationship between McGarrett and Catherine (Michelle Borth).
"We're going to be playing people's personal lives first and foremost, in terms of character arcs. We're doing a Valentine's Day episode which is going to really hammer home that theme," the executive producer also stated.
Lenkov also talked about McGarrett and Danny's bromance in a separate interview with TV Line. The executive producer teased that there will be an episode that will show the dynamic duo going through a couples' retreat as part of their therapy time. Lenkov claimed that the said episode will have a really funny story.
For the premiere episode of "Hawaii Five-0" season 6, the team will have to go back in history to deal with a case involving an old pirates' tale. Its official synopsis reads:
A murder leads Five-0 to investigate a centuries-old Oahu palace raid involving pirates, buried treasure and a killer who is using a stolen painting as a map. Also, the morning after their wedding, Kono and Adam are threatened and tortured by Gabriel, and Danny shows concern for McGarrett regarding Catherine's return to the island."
"Hawaii Five-0" season 6 premieres at 9 p.m. ET and 10 p.m. PT on Friday, Sept. 25, on CBS.
