'Halo 6' release date news: Sequel may not be out until 2018; 'Halo 5' not coming to PC

"Halo 5" will not be released on the PC but "Halo 6" will be. 343 Industries

Microsoft is adamant about not releasing "Halo 5" on PC. It emphasized this pronouncement after a rumor claimed that the company will bring the popular first-person shooter to the platform.

The buzz started when industry insider Enter the Dragon Punch claimed that the "Halo 5" will be brought to PC. He added that the sequel "Halo 6" will be out in 2018. In a statement to PC Gamer, Microsoft shot down one of the tipster's claims.

"Our approach is to deliver epic Halo experiences designed for PC gamers and Windows 10, such as Halo Wars 2 and the recently announced Halo 5: Forge," a Microsoft spokesperson said.

"There are no plans to port 'Halo 5: Guardians' to PC," the company's representative reiterated.

There were no clarifications regarding the "Halo 6" release date.

Enter the Dragon Punch's claims made sense because "Halo 5" Forge is already on the PC. Add to that the fact that Microsoft has expressed in the past its interest in bringing the "Halo 6" predecessor to the PC.

However, it looks like the plans were changed and "Halo 6" might be the first game from the franchise to make the jump to the PC platform instead.

Microsoft has announced that its upcoming "Halo" installments starting with "Halo 6" will be released on both the Xbox One and the Windows PC to boost cross-platform play.

Also, instead of releasing "Halo 5" to the PC, it is bringing "Halo Wars 2" to the PC instead to cater to fans of the video game series who likes to play on the said platform.

"Halo 6" is still in the embryonic stage and a showcase at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 is very unlikely. Microsoft is expected to focus on the big reveal of the new Xbox One Slim console instead.

As for "Halo 6," a 2018 release date is likely since "Halo 5" was released just last year.
