There is one more reason to look forward to "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." Just recently, it was announced that the highly anticipated sequel will be the first movie to be filmed with the 8K Weapon camera by RED.
That being said, the entire film will be in breathtaking 8K resolution. As per Cinema Blend, director of photography Henry Braham believes that this machine will seamlessly cater to the cinematic needs of the Marvel superhero film and should be "perfectly counterintuitive."
As per the press release picked up by Collider, the camera can capture 8K at 75 frames per second, 6K at 100 fps or 4K at 150 fps. This should make "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" look much clearer and improved.
While many are excited about the prospect, some fans aren't up for it. So director James Gunn took time to explain on Facebook, saying that the use of the Weapon 8K camera in the filming of the much-awaited follow-up to the Chris Pratt-starrer is "an aesthetic and creative choice."
The filmmaker explained that with the massive amount of data the camera will produce when filming "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," he can enjoy "more freedom in production and post production to create exactly the film you want to create than actual film does."
"Such high resolution gives me the ability to control ever[y] single bit of data (to do so would take a long time, but at least the knowledge comforts me)," Gunn went on to say on his Facebook post.
The director also adds that using the Weapon 8K camera will allow him to make good on his commitment to innovate the film and not just to "replicate" the look and feel of the movie.
Gunn said that knowing that there is a talking raccoon and a moving tree as protagonists in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," it will be easy to throw in those kinds of animations and bulks of other types of visual and digital effects to a digital base.
Whether or not this will look good as Gunn hoped, fans will know as "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" draws closer to its May 5, 2017 premiere.
