'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' cast, release date news: sequel won't feature Howard the Duck

Seth Green visits director James Gunn on the set of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" Facebook/James Gunn

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is currently in production and a lot of personalities are stopping by to hang out with director James Gunn. One of these folks is Seth Green.

For the uninitiated, Green provided the voice of Howard the Duck, who appeared in the post-credits scene of the first "Guardians of the Galaxy" film.

But before fans could come up with outrageous theories about why Green was on the set of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," Gunn made it a point to give a heads up to fans via the caption of their photo.

After thanking the veteran voice actor, Gunn wrote "Yes, Seth was Howard the Duck in the first movie, but, no, he wasn't on set to shoot a scene – we've just been good friends for almost 15 years!"

It is easy to think that "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will once again feature a bit of Howard the Duck with Green popping by the set. However, Gunn is adamant in saying that the actor was there to hang out only.

When Green's Howard the Duck first appeared on the blockbuster film, there were rumors about the character getting his own movie. He ended up getting a comic book series instead.

Howard the Duck is an iconic character in the Marvel Comics universe. He has appeared in a lot of stories in the comics with the likes of Spider-Man, X-Men and several Marvel events. However, it looks like Howard the Duck won't be getting some love in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" this time around.

In other related news, "Avengers: Infinity War" screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely hinted that Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) won't be the only Guardian appearing in the upcoming two-part Marvel saga.

"Let's put it this way: you know who owns that Gauntlet, right? And you know who's in another movie, and his kids are in that movie... you do the math!" Markus told Nerdist.

The owner of the Gauntlet is Thanos (Josh Brolin) while the kids mentioned are his adopted daughters Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana).

That being said, fans are now under the impression that the latter two "Guardians of the Galaxy" characters will also join Star-Lord in "Avengers: Infinity War."

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will be out May 5, 2017.
