'GTA 6' rumors: Release date no later than 2018; U.S. map, A-list stars to be featured

GTA V Rockstar Games

"GTA V" remains as one of the most popular video games in the market today, especially after two new DLCs containing luxury items and high-end vehicles were released for its online version. Still, fans want to know about the next installment and when it will come out.

Fan-made website Gta6GrandTheftAuto claims that "GTA 6" will come out around 2018. The website based their release prediction on the history of the game. According to the report, since 1997 when the first "GTA" was released, game developer Rockstar has come up with a new installment in five years or less. Because the latest "Grand Theft Auto 5" came out in 2013, the most probable release date of "Grand Theft Auto 6" is no later than 2018.

Meanwhile, other reports claim that the rumored "GTA 6" will feature the map of the entire United States, which means that it will be a lot bigger than the current "GTA 5."

However, MoviePilot reported that Rockstar will come up with an improved version of the current game, which only features the map of the fictional Los Santos city. Having a bigger map to drive around in might not be as exciting as some expect, since going from one city to the next would mean spending a lot of dead time on the road with nothing but the countryside to see until gamers reach their desired destinations.

Other "GTA 6"-related rumors claim that real-life couple and Hollywood A-listers Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes will be featured as the lead characters in the upcoming game. Gosling will allegedly appear as main protagonist John Marstan's descendant, while Mendes will be his female companion. Gosling's and Mendes' reps have yet to confirm or deny the rumors.

Rockstar Studios is expected to talk about the release of "GTA 6" in the near future.
