'GTA' 6 release date update: Possible launch coming 2020, to feature largest map in history

The "Grand Theft Auto" franchise is one series that many fans have grown up with all the way since its first game. With "GTA 5" being one of the biggest open-world games even until today, many fans wonder what would "GTA 6" have. While it surely would not be released anytime soon, there is a lot of speculation for the potential new game.

The closest clue anyone has about the development of "GTA 6" is from developers Rockstar President Leslie Benzies. "It comes from the idea first. Where it is going to be set is the first question. Then that defines the missions; you're doing different things in LA than in New York or Miami," says Benzies, as per ValueWalk. "The map and story get worked up together, and the story is a basic flow of how it works out so you can layer the mission in."

Another idea that is strongly being pushed when the next games comes in to development is the idea of a female protagonist. Ever since the first "GTA" game, the characters were mostly male. "GTA 5" had multiple playable but characters but lacked the dominance of a female protagonist. That said, "GTA 6" may take the same style of multiple characters but at least one female will play a big role.

One thing fans can be sure of is that with a new game comes with a new city to feature. If not, then at least a much upgraded or more detailed city. In fact, the details of buildings, people, infrastructure in general will be a lot more detailed as one of the things Rockstar has always wanted to work on continually.

Although different genres, the new game may also take on a first-person perspective due to the rise of first-person shooting games. Besides, "GTA 5" had already implemented its own first-person perspective.

Whatever features the game may have, it will surely take a few years before it gets released. Many speculate it to be released or announced by 2020. Others says 2022 but it should generally be around those years.
