'Grey's Anatomy' season 11 episode 21 spoilers: Is Derek Shepherd's life on peril?

Will "Grey's Anatomy" fans grieve for the death of a very important character after the 21st episode of season 11?

Rumors are widely circulating about the alleged death of Patrick Dempsey's character, Derek Shepherd, who will be facing a fatal incident in the episode titled "How to Save a Life." The speculations were ignited primarily due to the voiceover in the promo trailer, warning fans that something big will happen in the episode.

"Next Thursday, nothing can prepare you for what happens next. This is the episode America will never forget," the voiceover said.

There are also rumors claiming that Dempsey has been booted out of the set of the long-running medical drama because of his alleged "diva-like" behavior. Page Six ran a story about this recently, saying that a source shared that series creator Shonda Rhime can no longer tolerate his attitude and decided to suspend him from the series, but he will not return full-time even if he signed a two-year deal last year.

Dempsey's character was apparently written out of the show since November last year, which is why McDreamy landed a job in DC during this season.

According to the source, "Patrick has been acting like a diva and has clashed with Shonda. She suspended him for a while, and the word on set is that he isn't coming back full time."

The source also looked back on some of the character reductions in the show because of the actor's alleged foul attitude, saying, "Given all the past problems with Katherine Heigl and Isaiah Washington, there is little tolerance on the show for troublesome talent."

However, Rhimes, Dempsey and the ABC production are still mum about Derek's future in the show, and fans must wait until the end of this week's episode to see what happens to him, and how Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) will react to the upcoming events.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 11 episode 21 airs Thursday, April 23.
