Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) seems to be fighting for her life when the second half of "Grey's Anatomy" season 12 returns in two weeks.
The latest promo trailer for the midseason premiere shows a thoroughly bruised Meredith grasping for air. However, the clip does not reveal more details about the predicament that the doctor will encounter in the episode titled "The Sound of Silence."
But actress Kelly McCreary shared some information regarding the scene in an interview during the Television Critics Association (via TVLine).
"Meredith is attacked, and it is as terrifying and as shocking as you would expect for it to be," the actress, who plays the role of Meredith's half-sister Maggie, revealed. "Get ready to have your guts feel like they're coming out of you, because it is truly harrowing."
Fans of the long-running medical drama know that Meredith has been through a lot and almost died multiple times in the entire course of the series. But this particular one is said to be worse than the others.
"But this time is different because, as Sarah Drew has actually pointed out, in other instances where Meredith came close to death, she has had a little bit of control over the situation. She could save herself in some way, or make a choice that might help herself. But in this case she's physically impaired in a way that she has not been before," McCreary added.
Meanwhile, previous reports announced that the upcoming midseason premiere of "Grey's Anatomy" season 12 is helmed by award-winning actor Denzel Washington.
Though the exact reason for the attack that caused Meredith's latest near-death experience was not revealed, the official synopsis for the episode reveals that the chief of the general surgery department of the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital will be attacked by a patient.
Penny (Samantha Sloyan), Meredith's most hated intern at the hospital, will be the one who will discover her after the attack. The rest of the doctors will try to save her and be by her side during the aftermath of the harrowing attack.
"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 midseason premiere airs Thursday, Feb. 11, on ABC.
