'Gotham' season 1 spoilers: The Ogre succeeds in getting Barbara in episode 21

Gotham Fox

The second to the last episode of FOX's hit action-packed crime drama "Gotham" will return on Monday, showing a little peek of the season's episode finale.

The official synopsis for the episode titled "The Anvil or the Hammer" reads:

The Ogre breaks down Barbara's emotions, while Gordon and Bullock go to great lengths to track him down. Meanwhile, Penguin leads a massacre, beginning an epic war, while Bruce learns the truth about Wayne Enterprises and Nygma deals with his recent actions."

This means that the Ogre (Milo Ventimiglia) manages to capture Barbara Keane (Erin Richards) and continues to execute mind games on his victim. Gordon may or may not be aware of the Ogre's plans, but he and Bullock happen to be trying to track down the notorious serial killer.

It seems like the main characters of the show will be in a lot of trouble in the coming episode, and at least one of them would face an untimely death before the second season begins.

Meanwhile, series showruner Bruno Heller shared a little teaser for the next season of the explosive series in an interview with ComicBook.com. He particularly talked about how Joker's character will evolve, after being introduced as Jerome this season. The character is performed by "Shameless" star Cameron Monaghan.

"You're not going to see teases of The Joker before the end of the season, because the beginning of Season Two is a big Joker-oriented, or 'how the Joker came to be' kind of story. The beginning of Season Two is the very earliest origins of how The Joker came to be," the series creator said.

"Gotham" stars Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, Sean Pertwee as Alfred, Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle also known as the future Catwoman, Zabryna Guevara as Captain Sarah Essen, Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma/the future Riddler, Victoria Cartagena as Renee Montoya, Andrew Stewart Jones as Crispus Allen, and John Doman as Carmine Falcone.

Meanwhile, Jada Pinkett Smith's Fish Mooney will not return for the second season of the series.

"Gotham" season 1 episode 21, "The Anvil or the Hammer," will be aired on April 27. The season finale titled "All Happy Families Are Alike" will air on May 4.
