'God of War 4' release date: fans looking to E3 2016 for more details

Rumored 'God of War 4' concept art Finnian MacManus

Sony Interactive Entertainment has finally announced its official schedule for the upcoming E3, which is why gamers are expecting to hear more news about "God of War 4."

Insiders claim that Sony will unveil one unannounced game during its press conference in Los Angeles next month. This led to speculations that the interactive game company is gearing up to unveil the fourth major installment in the action-adventure game series developed by SCE Santa Monica Studio.

According to rumors, "God of War 4" has been under development for quite some time already. In April, the International Business Times spotted a Twitter post from game tipsters Shinobi602 which is presumed to be leaked information about the rumored game. It says, "Across the rainbow bridge... to the halls of Valhalla. My boy. #GodofWar4."

The post coincidentally came out around the same time as Nerd Leaks's report on a series of rumored concept art showing images from the said game.

The report claimed that the concept art was rumored to be the work of a former artist with Sony Santa Monica studio, Finnian MacManus. It includes a sneak peek at the bearded Kratos, the game's lead character.

The site has been taken down by hackers to stop the publication from leaking more information about the game. Even the Twitter account of the publication as well as MacManus's personal website are already unavailable at the moment.

However, Sony has yet to confirm whether "God of War 4" will really be a part of their E3 2016 presentation.

The "God of War" video game series began in March 2005 when Sony released the game for the PlayStation 2. Its critical reception paved the way for the development of its sequels, "God of War 2" in 2007 and "God of War 3" on 2010. But while there is no news about a fourth installment of the game, Sony has released several installments for the PlayStation Portable over the years.
