'Girl Meets World' season 3 updates: Fans urge Disney to move series to Freeform

Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard) and her friends are moving up to high school. But could this mean that "Girl Meets World" is also ready to move on to cater to more mature audiences in season 3?

Several spoilers claim that the "Boy Meets World" spin-off will tackle more complicated storylines in season 3 that are reportedly unfit for the generally wholesome format of Disney Channel. Which is why fans are signing up for petitions to move the show to Freeform.

A fan made a new petition on Change.org to urge Disney Channel in March 2016 to move the series in a venue with lesser restrictions. "Disney has restrictions on its network that ABC *now known as freeform* does not have," the description reads, explaining that the network caters mostly to young children.

"Girl Meets World isn't allowed to explore the many more mature subjects that boy meets world was allowed to explore," the description added. "Simply put, girl meets world will never reach its fullest potential while it's on Disney. Which is why I'm starting this petition to move it to freeform. If you agree, sign today!"

At the moment, the petition already earned a total of 4.066 supporters, and only need 934 signatures before it can finally reach its target of 5,000 signatures.

This is not the first time that a fan made an online petition to put "Girl Meets World" to Freeform. Last year, a fan named Tamsin Levine encourages other fans to ask Disney to release the series to ABC Family, the former name of Freeform. But the oldest petition was launched two years ago, when man named Steven Acosta requested the network to bring "Girl Meets World" to ABC, where "Boy Meets World" originally broadcasted.

Meanwhile, series creator Michael Jacobs confirmed to The Wrap that actor Uriah Shelton will return to his character as Uncle Josh for season 3 after being sidelined in the previous season due to an accident. "Josh will be the center of some of those complications. Josh's inclusion in Season 3 will really be what we wanted to do in Season 2, which is nothing is easy," the series creator said.

"Girl Meets World" season 3 is currently in production, and expected to premiere later this year.
