After previous reports claimed that the new version of the iconic "Ghostbusters" film will be set in Boston instead of its usual New York City setting, helmer Paul Feig came out to shot down the rumors. During the press panel for his new film "Spy," the director set the record straight regarding the location of the "Ghostbusters" reboot.
"Oh no, it takes place in New York," Feig told IGN. "We're just shooting mostly in Boston. The original Ghostbusters shot mostly in LA and then they went to New York and shot some exteriors, so that's basically what we'll be doing too. It just comes down to money and our budget is so high that we need the tax incentive that Massachusetts provides."
He also reiterated the importance of New York in the central story of the film, saying, "Oh yeah, you can't take the Ghostbusters out of New York. I had moments where I thought, 'Well we're shooting in Boston, why not?' But that just felt wrong to me. Some of the fans are mad at me about doing a reboot and even I would be mad at myself if I pulled it out of New York."
The new, all-girl ghostbusters is led by comedienne Melissa McCarthy, who also worked with Feig in "Spy." The director said that he envisioned her role's primary traits as an altruistic but fierce leader. However, McCarthy claims that she still has to decide how to personify her character for the film.
Joining the team are Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones.
Meanwhile, another rumor was denied by actor Chris Pratt, who was reportedly chosen by Channing Tatum to be his co-star in his own "Ghostbusters" reboot production outside of Feig's film. According to the "Jurassic World" actor, he saw Tatum several times yet no one talked to him about any "Ghostbusters" movie.
Feig's "Ghostbusters" reboot is expected to premiere on July 22, 2016.
