After coming out as a homosexual earlier this week, lead singer Trey Pearson of the Christian rock band Every Sunday appeared on "The View" on Friday, June 3, to talk about his family's reaction to his revelation.

Pearson, 35, said Lauren, his wife of seven-and-a-half years, has been his "biggest supporter," and that when he told her about his real identity, "she just hugged me and cried and said how proud of me she was," according to out.com. Pearson and Lauren have two young children.

In an earlier interview, Pearson said, "Lauren has been the most supportive, understanding, loving and gracious person I could ever ask for, as I have come to face this. And now I am trying to figure out how to co-parent while being her friend, and how to raise our children."

He says he now wants to be a voice for "gay Christians" and hopes to help fellow gay Christians who are struggling with identity issues.

"It's to share my experience, and hopefully help people that are going through the same thing," he writes on his Facebook page. "If you call yourself a Christian, please remember that the most important commandment Jesus gave is to love your neighbour as yourself, and he includes loving your enemies too. I'm thankful that the love is, by far, exceeding the hate."

Pearson shocked the Christian community on Monday after he released an open letter to fans telling them that he had been struggling with homosexuality for the past 20 years and has finally decided to come clean with his sexual preference.

"I had never before admitted to myself that I was gay, let alone to anyone else. I never wanted to be gay," the Christian rock star writes. "I was scared of what God would think and what all of these people I loved would think about me; so it never was an option for me. I have been suppressing these attractions and feelings since adolescence."

He said he and his band will perform at the Pride Festival in Columbus, Ohio on June 17 alongside other acts such as disGrace, Auda Beaux Di, and Mojoflo.

Pearson is also scheduled to perform at the Christian-billed Wild Goose Festival in North Carolina in July. Organisers of that event are known to be supportive of homosexuality and transgenderism, according to Christian News Network.
