'Game of Thrones' news: season 6 scenes to be filmed in two other Spanish cities

Will the members of House Martell return in "Game of Thrones" season 6?

Entertainment Weekly reported the latest announcement from HBO, saying that the cast and crew of "Game of Thrones" will return to Spain to shoot several scenes for season 6. This has led to speculations that Dorne's Water Gardens will once again be featured  next season since that part of Westeros was shot entirely at The Royal Alcazar of Seville. Jaime Lannister (Nicolaj Coster-Waldau) and Bronn (Jerome Flynn) are currently held captive in the Water Gardens for attempting to rescue Myrcella (Nell Tiger Free). This storyline could be carried over when the series returns for its sixth season.

However, the location listing that was provided did not include Seville or the city of Osuna, which was also used to shoot some of the scenes in the current season. Instead, HBO announced that filming will take place in the cities of Peniscola and Girona. It is possible, however, that Dorne would still wage war against King's Landing next season since Jaime and Bronn are still under their custody.

Spain would definitely welcome back the "GoT" production with open arms as the show helped in boosting the local tourism in Seville and Osuna. In October 2014, U.S. ambassador to Spain James Costos said that the cities' tourism increased by 15 percent in the first two weeks of "GoT" filming alone.

Aside from Spain, the only other country that has been confirmed to be another filming location for "Game of Thrones" season 6 is Ireland, since this is where the series production is centrally based.

Meanwhile, "GoT" fan-based online community Watchers on the Wall published an unofficial casting list for season 6 from several sources. Some of the characters that are believed to be debuting in season 6 include:

  • A cunning, middle-aged pirate believed to be Theon Greyjoy's uncle Euron
  • Humorless, disciplinarian former soldier, which could possibly be Sam Tarly's abusive father Randyll
  • Sam's brother Dickon, their mother Melesa, and one of his sisters named Talla
  • A former soldier turned rural priest Septon Meribald

"Game of Thrones" will be airing the last two episodes of season 5 on June 7 and June 14, while production for season 6 begins in July.
