Crown International Pictures' "Galaxina" to get a TV reboot

William Sach's 80's sci-fi film "Galaxina" is making the jump from the big screen to the small screen after almost 40 years since it debuted.

Crown International Pictures, who originally brought the comedy, parody into theatrical release in the 80s, is now planning to create a TV adaptation of the said film, according to reports.

The film, which originally starred the Playboy playmate Dorothy Stratten, tells the story of a female cyborg that holds the key to discovering the much-sought-after Blue Crystal. Alongside Stratten, the film also featured performances from Avery Schreiber, Stephen Macht, and J.D. Hinton.

The movie, which is said to be a parody of various sci-fi titles, such as Star Wars, Star Trek, and Alien, won the posthumous Audience Award in the 1983 installment of the Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Film.

Mark Altman, famous for his work on "The Librarians," has been assigned as the primary responsible for producing and penning the film.

And alongside partner Steve Kriozere, most notable for his body of work which includes "NCIS" and "Castle," Altman aims to retell the story of "Galaxina" into something that 21st century audiences could appreciate and admire.

"We are thrilled to be working with Crown on updating one of their most important and iconic films for today's contemporary audiences. "It's our hope to combine the groundbreaking sci-fi storytelling of Ron Moore's Battlestar Galactica with the smart, uplifting optimism of classic Star Trek. Crown has a vast, untapped library of classic motion pictures that my generation grew up with and we're delighted to be working with our friends there to share these great stories," Altman explained.

Marilyn Jacobs Tenser, Crown International Pictures' Chairperson, when asked about the upcoming TV adaptation disclosed that they could not contain their excitement on "Galaxina's" imminent return to commercial screens seeing as they consider it to be one of their beloved jewels of a film.

"Galaxina is one of our Crown jewels and we could not be more excited to see it return to the screen for a new generation of fans with a contemporary, clever, new spin from these very talented creators," Tenser said.

Although now confirmed, the company has yet to issue a specific release date for "Galaxina's" TV comeback.
