Disney's Elsa has been the subject of LGBTQ+ rumors ever since the character debuted in 2013's "Frozen," singing what is believed to be the coming-out anthem "Let It Go." Many fans have since urged the studio to make it happen with the campaign #GiveElsaAGirlfriend. Now, roughly five years later, the film's director Jennifer Lee is finally addressing the rumors.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Lee revealed she knows about the #GiveElsaAGirlfriend hashtag and is actually happy to be a part of the conversation. "I love everything people are saying [and] people are thinking about with our film ― that it's creating dialogue," she said. "That Elsa is this wonderful character that speaks to so many people."

This has gotten Lee and her team talking about what is next for the Queen of Arendelle. "Where we're going with it," the director continued, "we have tons of conversations about it, and we're really conscientious about these things."

Obviously, she could not give away their decision, but she did say that Elsa will ultimately have the final say about her sexuality. "I always write from character-out," Lee explained, "and where Elsa is and what Elsa's doing in her life, she's telling me every day. We'll see where we go."

Giving Elsa a girlfriend in "Frozen 2" is not just supported by fans, Idina Menzel who voices the character thinks it is a great idea too. However, she noted that it is not her decision to make and whichever direction Disney is bringing the character, she is up for it.

Should the Mouse House give in to the fans' petition, the sequel will not be the first Disney film to include an LGBTQ+ representation. 2017's live-action "Beauty and the Beast" already introduced the studio's first openly gay character, LeFou, played by Josh Gad. The actor also voices Olaf in the "Frozen" franchise.

"Frozen 2" is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Nov. 27, 2019.
