Electronic Arts (EA) Sports announced that hundreds of "Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) 18 Ultimate Team" ("FUT 18") players will get boost ratings as part of Rating Refresh. EA Sports gave the list of Premier League, Ligue 1 and Calcio A players that were permanently upgraded.

EA Sports takes winter upgrade season as a time to upgrade football players in the game to reflect their performance more accurately. Eurogamer reported that players' base card owned by gamers before Feb. 23 don't get an upgrade as Ratings Refresh only apply to new cards from packs. Moreover, In-Form versions of players only get an upgrade if their new base rating is higher than their original In-Form card's rating. In addition, Eurogamer said that EA Sports will not downgrade players whose performances weren't as satisfactory as in real life.

For the Premier League, some of the players who have been upgraded include Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea whose rating went from 90 to 91, Crystal Palace midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek whose rating went from 69 to 74, West Bromwich Albion's center back Ahmed Hegazi whose rating went from 68 to 75, Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope whose rating went from 68 to 75 and Manchester City center back Nicolás Otamendi whose rating went from 83 to 85.
