'Fear the Wolves' early access news: Battle royale to open later this year

Fans of survival shooter game "Survarium" can relive their experiences in a new battle royale game called "Fear the Wolves."

With the rising popularity of "PlayerUnknown's Battleground" or "PUBG," the battle-royale shooter gaming genre has become one of the most played genres in the past year. More and more games are getting their own battle royale version, or completely new games of the said genre are popping out every now and then. Among the new ones is "Fear the Wolves" developed by Vostok Games.

While there have been many kinds of battle royale games with varying themes, none of them apparently have an apocalyptic type of setting similar to "Survarium." That is until now with "Fear the Wolves" coming into early access on Steam later this year for PC players. Of course, it would not just be a simple "PUBG"-like battle royale.

There will be more "deadly anomalies and dynamically-changing weather," mentions publishers Focus Home Interactive. Do not be surprised to encounter mutated creatures as well. Night and day times will also be implemented in the game alongside the weather. There are areas called the "dangerous off-limit zones" that contain gear that are assumably of a higher class to help players get through the game.

There are a lot of survival elements that come into play than just either hiding from enemies or shooting them while being inside the safe zone. There are creatures, harsh natural elements, and of course, other players to deal with.

Interestingly, for those who did not know, Vostok Games, the developer of this new battle royale game, are mostly composed of former "STALKER" developers. They were also behind "Survarium." With those two games being mostly about survival, it does not seem quite surprising that their next game would follow the same theme.

Although its early access will only be on PC, "Fear the Wolves" will be playable on major consoles. Its official release is likely to be announced within the year.
