The "Fast and Furious" franchise has continually evolved throughout the eight movies it has so far. Dwayne Johnson's character as Luke Hobbs is apparently getting a spinoff movie with Jason Statham's Deckard Shaw, further evolving the franchise series.

"It's been a challenging process because I feel like my intention from day one, when I first joined the cast, was to hopefully come in, have fun, and create a character that people will hopefully like and try to elevate the franchise," said Johnson in an interview as per CBR. "But in the process of elevating the franchise, I have always thought that in order this to have real longevity and legs, we should spin out and create characters that can live on their own."

It does not seem too farfetched for Johnson to make this spinoff movie come true. In fact, Universal Studios is indirectly confirming it, and they are thinking of releasing it on 2019. However, as much as the fans would love to see this happening, not everyone was pleased about it, notably castmate Tyrese Gibson who plays Roman Pearce. Until now, there has not been much news of how the two are handling the new spinoff movie.

Universal Studios apparently had plans of extending the franchise up to ten films. With this news of making spinoff movies for the characters, it would not be much of a surprise if they decide to extend the main storyline. To keep the integrity of the main story's plot, the franchise's writer since the first movie, Chris Morgan, is also in charge of writing this new spinoff movie

According to IGN, the idea of a spinoff movie from the main storyline came into discussion back in 2013. However, there may have been not many ideas as to what this spinoff could be. With the release of Fast and Furious 6, where Jason Statham first appeared in the series, it seems that the studio sees the potential between him and Johnson's characters.
