Epic Games closing down 'Paragon,' offering refunds on purchases

Despite the rise of the first-person shooter (FPS) gaming genre, especially with the battle royale mode, the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre is still one of the most popular genres. However, some MOBA games are just not fortunate enough to keep its player base and the game going. Sadly, "Paragon" is one of them, and developer Epic Games is shutting it down soon.

Epic Games just recently made the announcement, mentioning that this spring will be the last time the game will be online. Both servers for the PS4 and PC versions of the game will be shut down. While this would normally spell rip-offs for people who have spent money on the game, this time, players who bought the title will be granted refunds for every purchase made.

When reassessing the third-person MOBA "Paragon," Epic Games admitted that it was having a hard time keeping its player base. This is also considering how most of their resources have gone to their other more popular game, "Fortnite." As such, "Paragon" will officially be shutting down by April 26.

"It's with heavy hearts we've decided to close down Paragon," reads the official post. "After careful consideration, and many difficult internal debates, we feel there isn't a clear path for us to grow Paragon into a MOBA that retains enough players to be sustainable... We have failed you--despite the team's incredibly hard work--and we're sorry."

The refunds that will be made can be requested by players on their website. To make things easier, the refund will come straight from Epic Games instead of the player's platform provider. People just need to make an Epic account, and they can use the credits to their other games, especially "Fortnite."

"Paragon" is a MOBA that is similar to "Smite" where it sets it difference from popular MOBAs such as "League of Legends" and "DotA 2" due to it being set in third-person. While it did provide something new, it just was not able to compete with these aforementioned MOBAs.
