Emily Ratajkowski has sparked controversy after recently coming to prominence starring in a music video that was banned from YouTube for its sexually explicit content - being deemed inappropriate for the video sharing website.

The 21-year-old American model and actress stars in Robin Thicke's music video for controversial song, "Blurred Lines," which features rappers T.I. and Pharrell.

Ratajkowski, born in England, was signed by Ford Models at the age of 14. She modeled throughout her high school years and attended UCLA for one year. She has worked as a fashion model for Forever 21, Nordstrom, and other swim and lingerie shoots.

The original music video, which also stars models Jessi M'Bengue and Elle Evans , was banned from YouTube shortly after its release in March.

Thicke explained his controversial music video, telling GQ Magazine: "We tried to do everything that was taboo...Because all three of us are happily married with children, we were like, "We're the perfect guys to make fun of this"."

Critics have criticized the video for its content, which has specifically been created to degrade women. In addition, the lyrics in the song have also been slammed for their portrayal and treatment of women.

Daily Beast's Tricia Romano said the songs were "kind of rape-y" and left female fans "unnerved by [Thicke's] creepy lyrics and NSFW video."

Romano wrote: "The nudity might be fine if the song was called, 'Let's All Have Some Fun,' but it's called 'Blurred Lines,' and the subject itself is enough to make some female music fans uncomfortable."

Despite the controversy surrounding the lyrics of the song, the song has topped Billboard Charts.
